- Limits for gas engine oil: Ash max. 0.5%, TBN 5-7 (D2896), TAN 0.5-0.7 with limits on phosphorous and zinc (250-350 ppm) and calcium 1200 ppm

- Engine oil viscosity recommendations: -30°C to 0°C, 0W-30; -25°C to 20°C, 5W-30; -20°C to 20°C, 10W-30; -12°C to above 40°C, 15W-40. Monogrades: -20°C to -6°C, 10W; -10°C to 20°C, 20W; 4°C to 32°C, 30; above 10°C, 40. The use of monograde engine oils reduces oil change interval
General Notes
- 1.
- Synthetic oils, API category III, are recommended for ambient temperatures consistently below -25°C. Synthetic engine oils of 0W-30 viscosity may be used where ambient temperature does not exceed 0°C. Mineral oils are preferred, synthetic or part synthetic oils must not be used for break-in
- 2.
- Friction modified oils must not be used unless evidence of satisfactory performance in Cummins engines can be substantiated. Special break-in oils should not be used
